Hello everyone,
This week brings a quick way to see which participants have linked their wearables and correct local times in data exports for participants who travel. We also updated the iOS app to recognize newer Garmin models, fixed a few iOS issues, and said goodbye to the Analysis page to make way for something new. Please note that the Android app now requires Android 10 or later. Details are below.
New Features
Wearable Account Connections at a Glance
You can now see which participants have linked their wearable accounts, such as Fitbit, Oura, or Garmin, right on the Participation page. In studies that use cloud data sources, a new column, Cloud Data Sources, at the end of the table shows and the eye icon shows each source’s connection status and the date it was linked, so you know who to follow up with. For more details, see our Reference.
Improvements
Newer Garmin Models Recognized on iOS
If your study uses Garmin devices, the iOS app now recognizes the Forerunner 70, Forerunner 170, Forerunner 170 Music, Fenix 9, Fenix 9 Pro, and CIRQA Smart Band. Previously, the app displayed “Unknown Device” for these models. The Android app already showed their names, so nothing changes there.
Bug Fixes
Correct Local Times in Data Exports
We fixed data exports for participants who changed time zones during a study, which showed every timestamp in the participant’s latest time zone. The underlying times were always correct; only the local time and offset were off.
Direct Access to Studies From Invitation Links on iOS
We addressed an issue where opening study invitation links on iPhones prompted participants to enter the registration code. Participants who install the app from a study invitation link are now offered that study when they first open the app.
Full Study Names on the iOS Home Screen
We resolved an issue where the iOS app shortened study names unnecessarily on the Home screen, even when there was enough space to display more of the name.
Technical Updates
Android 10 or Later Required
To support the latest Garmin SDK, the Android app now requires Android 10 (SDK 29) or later. Participants on Android 9 can no longer install the app from Google Play, so we recommend checking the Android version of new participants’ phones before enrollment.
Removals
Analysis Page Removed
We removed the Analysis page from the researcher dashboard to make room for a new, more powerful way to explore and analyze your study data, coming soon. In the meantime, you can continue exporting your study data as described in our Raw Data Reference or explore it in Kibana.
Thank you for your continued feedback and support, which helps us make Avicenna Research better with each release. We hope you find these updates useful.
