Hello everyone,
In this update, we’ve improved how the app handles participant data, visualizes device activity, and manages file uploads. We’ve also resolved some issues and increased the minimum supported Android SDK version. Let’s break down the details.
Improvements
Fitbit Timezone
We improved how the system manages participant timezones on Fitbit devices, ensuring accurate data even if the Profile access is not granted. While this prevents potential data loss, we still recommend that participants grant the Profile access.
In Operation Event Plots
The Devices details section on the Participation page now displays In Operation event plots for all non-cloud data sources. This enhancement provides clearer insights into when the Avicenna app was actively collecting each data source on participants’ devices.
Bug Fixes
Battery Optimization Instructions
We fixed an issue where battery optimization instructions in the Android app were not translated. Now, when users open onboarding alerts and tap “Show Me How,” instructions display in the selected language, ensuring proper localization.
Survey Preview Language
We resolved an issue in the survey editor’s Preview page where the selected language was ignored and defaulted to the Base language. Now, when researchers select a different language, the survey content correctly displays the corresponding translations.
Security Updates
File Question Security for Surveys
We added virus scanning to the File question’s response upload process. If a file is suspected to contain a virus, the Avicenna server will prevent it from being uploaded, and its answer will automatically be marked as “Unanswered - File Rejected”.
Technical Updates
Increasing the Minimum Supported Android Version
To ensure full compatibility with the latest Garmin SDK and maintain reliable functionality across supported devices, we updated the minimum Android SDK version to Android 9 (SDK 28). Users with older devices are encouraged to update their operating system to continue using the app without interruption.
Thank you for your continued feedback and support which helps us make Avicenna Research better with each release. We hope you find these updates useful. As always, we welcome your feedback and encourage you to reach out with any comments or questions on our Community Forum or contact us directly via Email. Stay tuned for more updates coming your way!
