The changes in this release are relatively small, but together they smooth out several parts of Avicenna. Researcher-responded sessions can now be completed in any of the study’s configured languages, and the Working Memory Updating and Matrix Reasoning cognitive tasks now display translated content in the participant web application. We’ve also added time zone information to the appointment booking page and fixed several issues across the web application and the Researcher Dashboard. Here’s everything that’s new in this release.
Improvements
Survey Language Support in Researcher-Responded Sessions
We added language selection to researcher-responded survey sessions. When opening or editing a session from the Activity Sessions page, researchers can now switch between the study’s base language and any configured localizations using a new language selector in the session header. Sessions open in the participant’s preferred language by default, and switching languages immediately updates all translated survey content.
Time Zone Display on the Booking Page
We added the participant’s time zone to the appointment booking page. Available appointment slots were already shown in each participant’s local time, but the page did not indicate which time zone was being used. The booking page now displays the participant’s time zone alongside the available slots, making it easier to confirm appointment times before booking.
Notification Processing and Status Reporting
We improved how session notifications are processed, making notification delivery more consistent and ensuring their reported status more accurately reflects the outcome. This improvement is especially noticeable for data gap notifications, where the recorded status did not always match what was actually sent to the participant.
Bug Fixes
Direct Time Entry for Weekly Availability
We fixed an issue on the Availability page where the time fields in the Weekly availability section ignored typed numbers or jumped to a time other than the one entered. You can now set a start or end time by typing it directly, and the existing limits still apply: a start time cannot pass its end time, and typed times stay within the allowed range.
Save Draft Button in Section-Mode Surveys
We resolved an issue in the web application where section-mode surveys did not provide a way to save a draft while completing a section. Responses were only saved when moving to the next section, so closing the page before then resulted in lost progress. The Save Draft button is now available in the survey header, allowing participants to save their responses at any time without leaving the current section.
Previous Button and Progress Bar Settings in Surveys
We addressed an issue in the web application where surveys did not honor the Previous Button and Progress Bar settings configured in the activity editor. Participants saw the same navigation and progress display regardless of the survey configuration. These settings are now applied correctly, so surveys behave exactly as configured by researchers.
Translated Content in Two Cognitive Tasks
We addressed an issue in the web application where the Working Memory Updating and Matrix Reasoning cognitive tasks did not display translated content. Participants who selected a language other than the study’s base language still saw the introduction and other activity content in the base language. These activities now correctly display content in the participant’s selected language.
CSV Download for Unassigned Beacons
We fixed an issue on the Beacon Mapping tab where Download as CSV failed when a study contained beacons that were not assigned to a participant, such as room or object beacons. Instead of generating a file, the export displayed an error page. CSV exports now complete successfully and include both assigned and unassigned beacons.
