Weekly Release Notes - 2026-11-03

Hello everyone,

This week brings a new option to collect historical data from cloud data sources, five more Google Health data sources, and clearer tooltip tools in the Survey Editor. We also improved the action buttons in the activity editor and fixed issues with survey titles and section labels in the mobile apps, the survey top bar on newer iPhones, SensorKit data on iOS, audio recording, and the Activity Responses page. Details are below.

:rocket: New Features

Collecting Historical Data from Cloud Data Sources

When you add or edit a Buzud CGM or Google Health data source, you can now turn on Collect Historical Data. When a participant connects the data source, Avicenna also collects their data from the start of their participation period, not only from the moment they granted access. This helps when participants start wearing a device before connecting their account. The option is off by default.

More Google Health Data Sources

You can now add five more Google Health data sources to your study: Oxygen Saturation (SpO2), Daily Heart Rate Variability, Respiratory Rate, Total Calories, and Active Energy. Like the other Google Health data sources, they collect data from Fitbit and Pixel Watch devices through the participant’s Google account. For more details, see our Reference.

:sparkles: Improvements

Tooltips and Toolbar Hints in the Survey Editor

Definitions you add to survey questions are now called Tooltips throughout the Survey Editor. Every button in the question editor’s toolbar, including Add placeholder, now shows a short hint when you hover over it. Terms with a tooltip also keep their dotted underline when the question is not open for editing. For more details, see our Reference.

Action Buttons for Selected Items in the Activity Editor

In the activity editor, the Duplicate, Move, Delete, and Edit buttons on triggering logics, survey questions, and survey sections now also appear when you click the item, not only when you hover over it. This helps on touch-screen laptops, where the buttons could stay hidden. Triggering logics can now be selected by clicking, just like questions and sections.

Simpler Cloud Data Source Status

The Cloud Data Sources column on the Participation page now shows each data source as Linked or Not Linked. The token refresh and expiry details are no longer shown, since they were not needed to check whether a participant’s account is connected.

:lady_beetle: Bug Fixes

Survey Titles and Section Labels in the Mobile Apps

We fixed an issue in the iOS and Android apps where a section label was hidden when the survey title was also displayed. Participants now see both, as set in the Survey Editor.

Survey Top Bar on Newer iPhones

We resolved an issue on iPhones with a Dynamic Island, such as the iPhone 14 Pro and later, where the survey title and the close and skip buttons sat too close to the top of the screen.

SensorKit Data on iOS

We addressed an issue that could delay Ambient Light and Device Usage data collection on iOS after participants granted permission. The app now checks for these sensors during every data collection round, helping ensure collection starts as soon as SensorKit makes them available.

Recording Audio Before Microphone Permission

We fixed an issue where the audio recorder started its timer before the browser had asked for microphone permission. The recorder now waits until permission is granted, in both the researcher dashboard and the web application.

Filters on the Activity Responses Page

We resolved an issue that reset the selected activity and filters on the Activity Responses page when you left the page and came back. Your selections are now kept.

Thank you for your continued feedback and support, which helps us make Avicenna Research better with each release. We hope you find these updates useful.
