Hello!
Our study is collecting GPS data, but one of our participants with an iPhone has an “in operation” of 4%. We have checked the settings and their location permissions are on “Always”. Could there be another reason this is happening?
Also, it looks like it is only picking up GPS when they are in their normal location, not when they leave this location. Would there be a reason for this?
Hi @asusnacstudy
This is Amin from Avicenna product team,
First of all, please note that a lower than 100% in operation DOES NOT translate to data loss as the data collection algorithm might not require data collection 100% of the times. For example, when your participant is sitting idle, we don’t repeatedly collect the same data over and over again to optimize the battery usage, instead we will restart data collection when the participant is on the move and simply sya that the participant was idle for that period of time.
However, if you notice discrepancies in GPS data collection, there are different factors that can affect the GPS collection and “In Operation” metrics:
1- The user turning off their GPS tracking manually.
2- The GPS permission for Avicenna app might be revoked either accidentally or manually
3- Phone losing GPS signal due to low coverage or hardware malfunctions
4- Unstable network connection, this one can be fixed by syncing data manually through the app settings.
Please check the items listed here and let me know if the issue wasn’t solved.
